The Glass Soldier (D Farrands)

Nelson Ferguson served as a stretcher-bearer on the Western Front, surviving many of Australia's most horrific battles there before he was severely gassed at Villers-Bretonneux, from which he suffered trauma to his eyes and damage to his lungs.

Returning to Australia, he returned to his previous life, working as an art teacher and starting a family with the love of his life, Madeline. He was forced to leave his career when the effects of the mustard gas claimed his eyesight, however continued working, assisting with the stained-glass window business owned by his family.

The story of this young Australian soldier is a moving one; a story of war and bravery, of pain and strength, and of hope and miracles.
