Set against the stark background of the Western Front, this true story describes the wartime experiences of two young Australian men from country Victoria. Enlisting as privates in 1915, they saw action over the next three and a half years with the 24th Battalion, in most of the important engagements by Australians in Turkey, France and Belgium. In October 1918. days away from the war's end, the now captains led their men in an assault on the small French village of Montbrehain, in what was to be the last action by Australians in the First World War.
