Description:
The Afghanistan Medal was approved in 2004 and recognises military service in operations in Afghanistan as part of Operationh SLIPPER.
The medal features mountains with a sun rising behind them, representing the terrain of Afghanistan and a 'new dawn' for the country. Afghanistan is also written on the medal in English and Arabic. The opposite side displays the Australian Coat of Arms.
The ribbon features khaki, white, light blue, purple and red stripes. The khaki represents the Afghanistan terrain, the light blue represents the sky, the white the snow on the mountain peaks, and the red and purple stripes represent the ADF and the Afghanistan conflict.
